This I Believe

This isnt a poem like all my other posts, but I felt the need to post my essay that I had to write for school based on a prompt called "This I Believe"

In life, there are moments that you have that are sad and disappointing, but for every negative there is something better. Things happen in life, and while you may be unaware, these things help you in the journey of life. This is why I believe that inspiration can be found anywhere. Inspiration can happen by accident and will result in a passion and following your passions is worth any struggle. There is a great feeling in life where you are successful.
The happiest I ever felt though, was the moment that I found my true passion. I had been sitting in my house watching America’s Best Dance Crew Season 3 on television. One may wonder what could possibly result from television. I have always been told that “nothing good” ever comes from television so it seems like a weird concept. I guess the music that the crews dance to may seem like a negative effect, but like I said earlier, every negative will also have a positive. The past seasons of this show had been dominated by male dancers, so I was in awe when I saw this beautiful message that this crew had hoped to share with America. This crew, the Beat Freaks, was made up of seven strong and dedicated women. They came up with a message called “Freak the Dream” This was the moment that gave me a desire to learn how to dance. It’s kind of funny how much they changed who I used to be. When I was younger, I had hated dance but now I felt something in me change and I started to love dance. A fire erupted within me as I found something that I could truly be happy about. A movement started within me that could no longer be stopped.
I first started to dance about one month after the show had ended. It may seem exciting, but for me, the nerves started to show as I walked into the dance studio filled with experienced dancers. The first time that you try something can either make you or break you. In regard to something that you feel inspired to do, nothing in the world could ever break you. With that in mind, I completed my first dance class. I had felt embarrassed the whole time because I felt like a beginner in a sea of experts due to my lack of coordination. However, desire kept me going because I knew that as long as I kept going, I would begin to improve.
This mental state has been important in following my passion and doing what I feel inspired to do. It may be a rough journey, but anything that inspires you is worth it. It doesn’t matter if something changes you as long as it starts to show the real you. There is no need to hide yourself from yourself or other people as long as you are happy with what you are doing.
